The Functional Perspective on Advanced Logic Programming
نویسنده
چکیده
The basics of logic programming, as embodied by Prolog, are generally well-known in the programming language community. However, more advanced techniques, such as tabling, answer subsumption and probabilistic logic programming fail to attract the attention of a larger audience. The cause for the community’s seemingly limited interest lies with the presentation of these features: the literature frequently focuses on implementations and examples that do little to aid the understanding of non-experts in the field. The key point is that many of these advanced logic programming features can be characterised in more generally known, more accessible terms. In my research I try to reconcile these advanced concepts from logic programming (Tabling, Answer subsumption and probabilistic programming) with concepts from functional programming (effects, monads and applicative functors). 1998 ACM Subject Classification D.1.6 Logic Programming, D.3.1 Formal Definitions and Theory

A Functional-Logic Perspective on Parsing
Parsing has been a traditional workbench for showing the virtues of declarative programming. Both logic and functional programming claim the ability of writing parsers in a natural and concise way. We address here the task from a functional-logic perspective. By modelling parsers as non-deterministic functions we achieve a very natural manner of building parsers, which combines the nicest prope...

interpretation on applicative languages. We seek as a longer term goal to construct a suitable domain for combining these analyses into one comprehensive method, and applying its results to the optimized compilation of an advanced language integrating functional and logic programming.
متن کاملA New Perspective on Integrating Functional and Logic Languages
Traditionally the integration of functional and logic languages is performed by attempting to integrate their semantic logics in some way. Many languages have been developed by taking this approach, but none manages to exploit fully the programming features of both functional and logic languages and provide a smooth integration of the two paradigms. We propose that improved integrated systems c...
متن کاملA Proof Theoretic Approach to Failure in Functional Logic Programming
How to extract negative information from programs is an important issue in logic programming. Here we address the problem for functional logic programs, from a proof-theoretic perspective. The starting point of our work is CRWL (Constructor based ReWriting Logic), a well established theoretical framework for functional logic programming, whose fundamental notion is that of non-strict non-determ...
متن کاملDefault Rules for Curry
In functional logic programs, rules are applicable independently of textual order, i.e., any rule can potentially be used to evaluate an expression. This is similar to logic languages and contrary to functional languages, e.g., Haskell enforces a strict sequential interpretation of rules. However, in some situations it is convenient to express alternatives by means of compact default rules. Alt...
